Stoney Creek Condo Buildings Compared: A Buyer's Guide

Stoney Creek does not have hundreds of condo buildings to choose from. It has a handful of distinct ones, and they suit very different buyers.

This guide compares six of the best-known buildings by age, size, amenities and what the monthly fee includes.

Fee inclusions are taken from recent MLS listings and can change. Confirm them for any unit you are considering. Our guide to what condo fees cover explains why they matter so much.

Newer buildings on the lake

Sapphire at Waterfront Trails and Waterfront Trails sit on the Lake Ontario shoreline near the waterfront trail. Both have a gym, a party room and a rooftop terrace. Waterfront Trails uses geothermal heating and has bike storage.

Units here start at around 500 square feet, with modern open layouts. They suit first-time buyers and anyone who wants a newer building near the water. They are a poor fit if you need space or want most utilities included in the fee.

Established towers on the lake

The Shoreliner and The Bayliner are 18-storey lakefront towers from 1977. The Shoreliner has an outdoor pool, tennis and squash courts, a sauna and a workshop. The Bayliner has an outdoor pool, a sauna, a gym and a workshop.

Units are much larger, starting at around 860 square feet. Fees are higher in dollars, but they cover nearly every utility. These buildings suit downsizers and buyers who want room and predictable monthly costs. They are a poor fit if you want a brand-new interior without renovating.

Mid-rise buildings along Highway 8

Treviso is a seven-storey building from 2015 with a gym, a party room, garden plots and a bocce court. The Renaissance is a seven-storey building from 1991 with sunrooms in place of balconies, plus a gym, a squash court, a sauna and a library.

These trade the lake for a walk to shops, restaurants and transit. They suit buyers who want to stay close to the centre of Stoney Creek. They are a poor fit if a water view is the reason you are buying a condo.

How to choose between them

  • Compare total monthly cost, not the fee. A fee that includes hydro and heat is not comparable to one that includes neither.
  • Look at the building's finances. Age matters less than whether the building has saved for repairs. See our guide to reserve funds and special assessments.
  • Read the rules. Pet limits and rental restrictions differ from one building to the next.
